About This Page

Beatriz Paz

Hi, I'm Beatriz Paz. I'm a Computer Information Systems student at DMACC, and this is the start of my project for CIS515, Full Stack Web Development. Right now it's just plain HTML and CSS: a home page, an about page, and a contact page, all linked together and hosted in this one folder on the server. Later assignments add tables, lists, and a working contact form, and eventually I'll get into JavaScript and some back-end work on top of that. I'm keeping everything in its own folder here so the whole thing stays organized as it grows.

I already took WDV101, which covered HTML and CSS basics, and I've also finished CIS189, where I learned Python. Both of those show up here in small ways, like how I organized the folders, how the pages link to each other, and just being comfortable messing around in a text editor without panicking every time something breaks. I picked this program because I like building things I can actually see work, and web development is about as direct a way to do that as it gets. You write something, refresh the page, and it either works or it doesn't. This particular page doesn't do much yet, and that's kind of the point of Assignment 1: get the basic structure right before adding anything complicated. The about page has a real table now, the contact page has a working form, and the homework page links out to a few dummy projects. None of it is fancy, but it's mine, and I built every page of it folder by folder instead of starting from a template. By the end of the semester I want a small site I actually understand from top to bottom, start to finish, not just one that happens to work because I copied it from somewhere.

About This Portfolio

This website is my portfolio. It is where I keep the projects and assignments I complete as I learn web development at Des Moines Area Community College. I am working toward an AAS in Computer Information Systems, and this site shows what I have learned so far and how my skills have grown from one class to the next.

I started with WDV101, where I learned the basics of HTML and CSS, including page structure, styling, and the box model. After that I took CIS189, which introduced me to Python and programming fundamentals. Now I am in CIS515, Full Stack Web Development, and this site is the foundation for the work I do in that course. So far I have built pages with links and images, tables and lists, and forms, and I have started using CSS to give the site a consistent look. I also learned about security by design and why security should be planned from the start of a project.

In this module I am adding Bootstrap to the site. It gives me a responsive layout, a navigation bar, and styled forms, so my pages work on phones, tablets, and desktops. I like that I can see the same site get better as I learn new tools, because each assignment builds on the last one.

The projects I add here will show my learning journey in this course. Over the semester I plan to keep adding new pages and features, including JavaScript once we get to it. I want this site to be something I can share with classmates, instructors, and future employers to show what I can build. It also gives me practice organizing files, linking pages correctly, and publishing a site that works online. Each page I finish here is a record of what I can do now.

Thank you for visiting, and feel free to look around.
